Mitchell Marsh and David Warner both scored fifty, to help Australia defeat New Zealand by eight wickets in the 2021 T20 World Cup final in Dubai on Sunday 14 November, and clinch the inaugural title. It was Australia’s first triumph in an ICC tournament since winning the 2015 World Cup at home.

Trent Boult fired Aaron Finch (5) in the third over of the Australian chase of 173, first David Warner Other Mitchell Marsh took over. The pair added 92 of 59 balls to keep the required rate firmly in check, before the former was castled by Boult for a 53-ball 38.

Marsh’s innings were a highlight, with the right hander starting with a first six ball and ending 77 of 50 unbeaten with six fours and four highs. Glenn Maxwell applied the finishing touches with an undefeated 18-ball 28, which included a winning switch-hit limit towards the third-man region.

Previously, New Zealand took 115 off their last 10 overs to put on 172/4, after Finch opted for the bowl. The star of the show was Kane Williamson, who scored 10 fours and three sixes during his sublime 48-ball 85.

It was Australia’s first triumph in a T20 World Cup, with their best previous performance dating back to 2010, when they lost in the final to Paul Collingwood’s England.
