PASSIONATE APPEAL FOR THE INCLUSION OF ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH EMPLOYEE CANDIDATES FALL IN THE CURRENT RECRUITMENT YEAR OF THE LAGOS STATE LOCAL SERVICE COMMISSION

Greetings to your esteemed office. We appreciate your exemplary contributions in rowing the affairs of the state to the birth of a new social order of monumental infrastructural development and economic growth, with an improvement in the standard of living of the Lagosians.
Following the placement of the job advertisement on paper and electronic media by the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission, scheduled for a five-day period (25 – 29 September 2017), we, the Environmental Health Graduates , we submitted our application as directed by the commission.
The invitation of candidates for screening / recruitment by the Commission began last week via email and SMS correspondence. While other cadres are invited for screening / recruitment, environmental health cadres candidates are sidelined and in violation of 2006 local government service schemes, non-environmental health graduates including those with degrees in anthropology, biotechnology, sociology , crop protection, etc. were invited for an interview and internship as environmental health officials while thousands of real graduates of the profession who applied were not invited. Additionally, it should be emphasized here that these non-environmental health graduates outright lack the skills and credentials necessary to function statutorily and hopefully as environmental health officials.
We would like to reassure the state government of our willingness to contribute our share profitably to improving public service delivery to the good people of the state of Lagos. It is also noteworthy that some of our members are not only holders of a National Higher Diploma (HND) from recognized health technology schools / colleges, but are graduates with additional qualifications such as undergraduate and masters with excellent grades and have served the state government on a non-retirement basis for nearly a decade.
Furthermore, we have actively participated in the success intervention programs organized by the state and federal governments in the epidemiological control of outbreaks of Lassa fever, Ebola virus, cholera and some other diseases. We have no doubt that we would also be relevant in arresting this recent outbreak of monkeypox viral infection.
For the avoidance of doubt, an environmental health officer is a qualified graduate of the university or school / college of health technology and duly certified by the West Africa Health Examination Board (WAHEB) and the Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria (EHORECON) . Our work specifications are well enunciated by the World Health Organization (WHO) which aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Finally, in light of the above, we humbly ask for your timely intervention on the delay in the job interview experienced by our members, because we believe in your leadership, spirit of equality and goodwill for a serene environmental health of the state. .
