AMITYVILLE 3-D (1983)
DIRECTOR: Richard Fleischer TO EMIT: Tony Roberts, Lori Loughlin and Meg Ryan
With the latest installment in the CONJURING THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT franchise scaring audiences in theaters and on HBO Max, Awfully Good Movies is investigating another long-running horror franchise based on a (supposedly) true ghost story with the sequel. Final released in theaters of THE AMITYVILLE. HORROR: AMITYVILLE 3-D!
That’s right, the AMITYVILLE series followed the same path as FRIDAY the 13th, JAWS and so many other movies in 1983 by filming in red and blue 3D to bring supernatural scares to the audience’s faces. But due to a lawsuit against Lutz family producer Dino De Laurentiis who fled the Amityville home after 28 days of ghostly torture, the film’s publicity had to specify that it was not a sequel to THE AMITYVILLE HORROR or AMITYVILLE II. .
That was probably for the best though, because the third AMITYVILLE could be one of the least terrifying horror “sequels” ever, with the plot centering on a skeptical journalist played by ANNIE HALL co-star Tony Roberts. move into the house. to prove that the alleged appearances were a bunch of nonsense. Despite its cheesy 3D gimmick and having Lori Loughin and Meg Ryan before fame in the cast, AMITYVILLE 3-D has much more interminable exposition dialogue than gruesome encounters with demons and ghosts, and the few deaths of the film lack any. balls due to their PG rating. Whether the Amityville Horror story is true or not, the third movie based on it is truly terrible, with or without the paper cups. And just wait until AMITYVILLE 4, where the film’s main villain … is a demon-possessed lamp. “Out”, in fact.
