Darnell Barrett, 32, denied trying to “lure” a woman with his revealing selfies, calling it an “honest mistake.”
Another married Hillsong pastor resigned in the wake of a sex scandal.
Darnell Barrett, 32, of the megachurch’s Montclair, New Jersey branch, resigned Tuesday after it was revealed that he had sent explicit photos to a former church volunteer, according to Daily mail.
The news comes just six months after NYC Hillsong pastor Carl Lentz was fired for what the church deemed “moral flaws.” Later, Lentz admitted to cheating on his wife.

In the two Instagram story photos obtained by the outlet, Barrett is seen in white Nike Pro compression leggings that expose the contours of his private parts.
Barrett sent the selfies to his group of “close friends”, but a former church volunteer who was not among his “close friends” received similar photos from him directly. He claimed it was an accident, but she called him out for “fishing.”
“Obviously what you wanted me to see were the shirtless photos and the outline of your p … let’s not play around and act like that’s not the point,” the woman, who remained anonymous, wrote in posts obtained by the news source. “Your messages to goad me to see your ‘raw shit’ are obvious.”

After DailyMail caught up with Barrett outside his home on Tuesday, he admitted that he resigned his position as Creative Director at the church, citing the “infidelity” he was “working out” with his wife.
“We thought it was best for me to move on. I don’t want to go into details,” he explained. “This was something that was an honest mistake, and I reported it to my wife as soon as it happened.”
Regarding the church volunteer, he added: “I was not trying to attract her at all. I understand that she, in the context of what is happening with Hillsong, would draw those conclusions. But I hardly know her. That was not my intention. “
The “context of what is happening” appears to refer to the Lentz scandal that occurred in November, prompting Hillsong founder Brian Houston to release a statement regarding Lentz’s firing.
“This action was not taken lightly and was done in the best interest of everyone, including Pastor Carl,” Houston wrote. “This action has been taken following ongoing discussions regarding leadership issues and breach of trust, as well as a recent revelation of moral flaws.”
Lentz followed up with an Instagram post, writing: “I was unfaithful in my marriage, the most important relationship of my life, and I took responsibility for that. This failure falls on me, and me alone, and I take full responsibility for my actions.”
