Apple recently expanded its presence in Beaverton, Oregon, leasing about 50,000 square feet of office space, according to a report Wednesday.
Colliers real estate firm revealed the new office lease in a quarterly market report covering the Portland metropolitan area, based on the Portland Business Journal.
Colliers locates the property at 3555 SW 153rd, a nondescript office building on the outskirts of downtown Beaverton. Marketing materials for Beaverton Creek Phase IV set the property at 49,884 square feet in size, and the site previously served as the corporate headquarters for First Tech Federal Credit Union, according to the report.
Apple is slowly increasing its presence in Oregon. In 2018, the company reportedly opened a hardware engineering lab near the Beaverton and Hillsboro border. Job listings at the time suggested that the facility would be partly responsible for verification testing of the device.
The tech giant was rumored to have rented space in Building 7 Southeast Stark last year, a new development located in Portland’s Central Eastside Industrial District, according to the report.
Details about Apple’s Oregon operations are unclear, but the surrounding area is becoming a hotbed for technology sector investments. Along with a strong contingent from Intel, Portland and nearby cities have attracted companies like Amazon, Google, and Airbnb.
Apple continually looks for new growth opportunities in the US and beyond. In addition to data centers, the company is expanding corporate operations in the US and in 2018 announced a major national initiative highlighted by a $ 1 billion campus in Austin, Texas. Another ongoing billion-dollar campus in North Carolina will be Apple’s first major corporate facility on the East Coast.
