Blake Shelton performed the song for Gwen Stefani at their wedding.
The couple got married in Oklahoma over the weekend, and their friend Carson Daly, who presided over the ceremony, revealed that he invited the couple to write their own vows, and after hearing No Doubt’s speech, he was not sure if the groom could match her sincere words.
However, much to the delight of the Voice host, Blake grabbed his guitar and stunned both the bride and their guests.
Carson recalled in Today, “Gwen starts at the wedding, and she wrote it. [speech] says, “Since I was a little girl … blah blah blah” and she laments [it]rather than a dry eye in a church.
“… It was so beautiful that I told Blake when she finished, ‘Better buddy.’ “
The “God Country” singer told the assembled guests, “Gwen always bothered me that I didn’t write enough songs, so I wrote the song.”
Carson added, “A guitar comes in, a chair, then, you know, he wrote a song for her, and he sings a song to her — while he cries — which he wrote especially for her. I think it was called Reach for the Star. Not a single dry eye in the house. It was a highlight. “
While the host thinks the song could be a “hit,” he is not sure if it will ever be released as a single, but if so, Carson believes it will take the guests back to the wedding.
He said: “[The song] at this moment everyone will be put to the wedding. You will be on top of a hill in the center of Oklahoma. “
The 48-year-old host praised the ceremony as “perfect” to represent Blake and Gwen.
He said, “It was perfect for them, the whole weekend and the marriage itself. He was as elegant, sophisticated, and cool as Gwen, and he was as rustic, homely, and fun as Blake.
“They just work. This is an unlikely pair. They’re like pairing delicious fried chicken with a glass of champagne. On paper, on the menu, it doesn’t seem to work, but it does.
“It’s comfortable food with class and everyone cheers for it … It was just their family. She was small and perfect. “
And Carson is honored to have been invited to preside over their important event.
He said, “I’ve known Gwen for 25 years. I was friends with both of them when they met separately. I love Blake to death. He’s like a brother I never had …
“When they called me, they had a speakerphone and they said, ‘We think you are perfect for this.’
“Gwen and I share a deep sense of faith. We talk a lot about faith, the two of us, and it was truly an honor to work with them and their family to be a part of that day with their family.
“It was fun too. I don’t want people to think, “Oh, big celebrity wedding.” We were thrilled all weekend. “
