BMW M8 GTE finishes on the podium in its last IMSA race

As we announced earlier this week, the BMW M8 GTE competed in his last IMSA race this weekend, at the Endurance Road Atlanta Petit Le Mans event. The # 24 BMW M8 GTE managed to take pole position for the start of the race and finished it on the podium for the last time, after 10 grueling hours of racing. The car, driven by John Edwards, Augusto Farfus and Jesse Krohn, also drove the race for a good part of the race.

Friday’s qualifying match was simply dominated by the M8 GTE, with Jesse Krohn at the wheel. The extraordinary performance ended with a pole position in the GTLM class for the M8 on race day. However, both M8 GTE drivers struggled in the race, struggling hard to keep up with their rivals. In the end, third place was a nice way to go for the BMW race car that will be replaced by the M4 GT3 next year.

We previously confirmed BMW Team RLL as our partner for the coming years in North America and published the first images and a name for our future BMW M LMDh project. Thanks to everyone who put a lot of effort into the BMW M8 GTE. Podium and pole position in the last race are a nice conclusion. Now we are opening a new chapter and not we look forward to the BMW M4 GT3, which will have a test race next week at Sebring, “said Mike Krack, head of BMW M Motorsport after the race.

Overall, the BMW BMW M8 GTE garnered 26 podiums and a pole position in the history books during its run in the IMSA. After two Rolex 24 Daytona wins and five class wins, the car retires, with an impressive run written in the history books.
