While most of the attention in this year’s NBA rookie class is on Victor Wembanyama and, to a lesser extent, Scoot Henderson, the Charlotte Hornets have a good one on Brandon Miller.
The 6-foot-9 forward had a strong summer league debut in the California Classic on Monday with 18 points, though he also committed five turnovers.
But his second game on Wednesday was difficult, as he had more fouls (eight) than points (six) in 28 minutes.

Miller managed to dish out seven assists but had four turnovers.
Last season, as a member of the University of Alabama Crimson Tide, he put up 18.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game while shooting 38.4 percent from 3-point range.
He is also believed to have a lot of defensive potential, having put up 0.9 steals and 0.9 blocks per game in his only season at Alabama.
If Miller ends up performing well and achieving an All-Star level of production and value in the NBA, it would give the Hornets a nice duo to build with him and LaMelo Ball.
Ball posted 23.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 8.4 assists per game during the 2022-23 campaign and has reportedly just agreed to a five-year contract extension that could be worth as much as $260 million.
The Hornets have been a laughing stock for most of their existence, having made the playoffs just three times since their formation in 2004, and haven’t been there since the 2015-16 season.
Last season, they won just 27 games and had the second-worst record in the Eastern Conference.
