One of Australia’s most respected infrastructure experts has revealed just how bad the culture of public services outsourcing really is.

In an extraordinary piece of evidence for a New South Wales Legislative Council investigation, Brendan Lyon detailed how the NSW Treasury sabotaged his work for KPMG when it refused to modify its report to fit its agenda. And he has emails to support it.

Lyon is not just another of the thousands of consultants who make their living thanks to the enthusiasm of governments to outsource policy advice to major consultancy firms. He is a former staff member of the Liberals, former longtime head of Infrastructure Partnerships Australia and a member of the board of directors of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific.
