Britney Spears’ friend said her father had “no compassion.”
The 39-year-old singer is fighting in court to end the custody she has been in since 2008, when her father, Jamie Spears, is currently taking over her financial affairs and Jodie Montgomery taking care of her love life.
And after Britney recently went on trial to accuse her father of “ruining” her life, her best friend Sean Phillip also hit Jamie, insisting that he “doesn’t seem to care” about Britney’s “well-being.”
He said: “Jamie only wanted to be Britney’s dad when she turned 26 and became a multimillionaire.
“When she started having problems, he walked in, but he had no compassion and he just didn’t seem to care about his daughter’s well-being.
“He had every opportunity to stop what was happening to her – her prescription pill addiction – but he didn’t. I 100 percent believe he was a helper.”
Sean, who met Britney in 2003 and began working as her personal trainer in 2006, also blamed Jamie for the infamous breakdown of hitmaker Toxic in 2008, as he said his “controlling” nature drove Britney to the extreme.
A few days after the breakdown, Britney came into custody, which gave her father the ability to control her condition and all aspects of her career and life.
Sean added, “Britney was so sweet, kind, loving and funny – and much smarter than people thought.
“Her breakdown was not due to the fact that she lost her mind. Because what was happening to her was driving her crazy. Jamie was known as a violent alcoholic. He seemed largely indifferent to his daughter.
“The management wanted to control and manipulate the energy around her. They just wanted to milk their cash cow.”
And Sean said he was “very proud” of Britney fans for launching the hashtag “Free Britney”, which helped bring attention to the star’s situation.
He told The Sun: “I am glad for her that she is moving in the right direction because I have seen too many other people die.
“I am also very proud of her fans for really moving forward because they really did a lot to get where they are today. I really think Britney really needed guidance at some point, but this is just ridiculous. It’s just a money grab. “
