LONDON– King Charles III has been photographed taking up his new state duties at Buckingham Palace for the first time.
In the image, the monarch is seen looking at his official red box containing documents from the British Government and the Commonwealth.
In a sign of royal continuity, the image is taken in front of a photo of her late parents, Elizabeth and Philip, which the couple had given to King George VI in 1951, a year before Elizabeth became queen.
During her own reign, Queen Elizabeth II also appeared regularly with her official red box, which each monarch receives from her private secretary.
The image was taken in the 18th Century Room at Buckingham Palace three days after Elizabeth’s death.
