By Jake Curtis, Cal Sports Report: Cal was something of a penguin of sports in 2022-23: comfortable and efficient in the water, but slow and awkward on land. National titles in three men’s aquatics sports (rowing, water polo, and swimming and diving), as well as a national runner-up in rugby, made Cal’s athletics look good.
The Bears’ three national championships ranked second among Pac-12 schools, behind only Stanford, which has won four of those titles, including a national championship in sailing.
