The Montreal Canadiens could be in line for some reinforcements before Wednesday’s Game 2 against the Vegas Golden Knights.
Canadiens coach Dominique Ducharme told reporters that defenders Jeff Petry and Jon Merrill, as well as forward Jake Evans, are all “chances” to return to the team’s lineup, as they appear to equal the semifinal series in one set each.
Petry left Game 3 of Montreal’s second-round sweep over the Winnipeg Jets and hasn’t adjusted since. The best D-man on the team has three assists in 10 postseason games while averaging nearly 24 minutes of ice time.
Evans, meanwhile, has not played since suffering a concussion from a terrifying punch from Mark Scheifele in the final minute of Game 1 against the Jets. The 24-year-old has one goal in four playoff games.
Merrill has been out of the lineup since Game 5 of Montreal’s first-round series against the Toronto Maple Leafs. He’s been rendered useless in five postseason games.
The Canadiens and Golden Knights meet at 9 pm ET / 6 pm PT on Sportsnet and SN Now.
