Cannabis Security Plans for License Applications: Overview – News Block

5.) Private Security Contracts

“Provide a copy of a contract with a private security contractor licensed under Section 10-5 of the Private Detective, Private Alarm, Private Security, Fingerprinting, Vendors and Locksmiths Act of 2004 (225 ILCS 447/10-5 ”

We anticipate that this section will be a very misconstrued clause for applicants for dispensaries and artisanal cultivation facilities. Our interpretation is that this it does not mean that a single provider contract should cover all of these services. We have been in the security industry for almost 20 years. We have never seen an alarm company perform fingerprint scanning, a fingerprint scan provider install locks, or a locksmith conduct private investigations or supply armed security guards. It is unlikely that a single contract/company will provide the necessary quality of security in each area.

We believe it is advantageous for adult use dispensary applicants to have current contracts for EVERY license and core competency. Security companies should be thoroughly investigated. Applicants must perform due diligence before signing a letter of intent to supply security services, conditional on their license approval. Hiring a cannabis IT services company can also help protect customer data.

Tell your safety story and demonstrate your commitment to safety

In all annexes, applicants must provide details of their compliance in each area. The last section explains why you should be the lucky ones to get a license. This is done by telling your story.

What is the fundamental framework of your safety culture? Security is much more than cameras, guards and weapons. It’s how you’re training employees to interact with your customers. It should be an app from day one on how you’re engaging people early on. If you’re not training your employees in safety culture, you’re in for long-term problems.
