MANILA, Philippines – John Riel Casimero is taking matters into his own hands just to make sure he can pull off that unification fight against pound-for-pound top fighter Naoya Inoue.
The WBO Bantamweight World Champion was present during Shakur Stevenson’s fight against Jeremiah Nakathila, where he approached Arum to request a fight against Inoue, the man who holds the WBA Super, IBF and The Ring belts.
“Dame Inoue,” Casimero told the CEO of Top Rank in a video he posted on his YouTube channel.
Arum, whose promotion organized the Stevenson-Nakathila undercard, simply said “maybe the next fight?”
Arum also asked Casimero about his upcoming fight against Guillermo Rigondeaux on August 14.
“Are you fighting now? Who are you fighting again? Rigondeaux? It’s tough, ”Arum said.
Casimero (30-4) was supposed to face Inoue, the No. 2 pound-for-pound boxer in Ring magazine ratings, in April 2020, but that bout was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Inoue (20-0) was unable to fly to the United States from Japan and that left Casimero inactive during his time in Las Vegas.
When Inoue flew to the United States, he fought Jason Moloney in place of Casimero with the latter settling for Duke Micah, whom he finished in three rounds.
Inoue is set to defend his titles against Michael Dasmariñas on June 19.
