Cinemark cinemas have begun their reopening process in Los Angeles. The theater chain made the announcement later this week, and the ten locations in the Los Angeles area are expected to open between now and Monday, March 15. By early next week, Cinemark is expected to have 90% of its North American locations open to the public with a large number of security protocols in place. Cinemas in the Los Angeles area have been closed since this time last year.
Cinemark CEO Mark Zoradi made the reopening announcement and is pleased to welcome Southern California residents to theaters. “Cinemark is pleased to once again offer Los Angeles moviegoers the opportunity to watch a movie on our large screens with picture and sound technology that can’t really be played at home,” Zoradi said in a statement. New York has slowly started opening movie theaters, and viewers are returning cautiously. You can read the rest of Zoradi’s statement below.
“Los Angeles is one of the most important film markets in the world, and we look forward to providing viewers with the entertainment experience they have been craving with health and safety protocols they can trust. In the coming months and nearly 90 percent hundred of our American open circuit, there’s no better time to go back to the theater. “
Each Cinemark auditorium is “extensively sanitized between show times with products identified by the EPA to be effective in eliminating COVID-19,” the company’s reopening protocols state. Staggered show times and limited capacities will be used to maximize physical distancing, while Seat-Buffering technology automatically locks adjacent seats to a party upon ticket purchase. Masks are mandatory for all moviegoers inside the cinema, although they can be removed to eat and drink in the auditoriums. Additionally, all employees must wear a face mask at all times.
Cinemark went on to state that all of its “high-touch and public spaces are frequently thoroughly disinfected.” Seat wipes and hand sanitizer are available to the public, and all seats are cleaned after each inspection. Prospective guests are encouraged to “purchase tickets online and use contactless payment methods for a more contact-free experience.” They went on to say that cash payments will be limited, although they did not provide further details on this.
In addition to the aforementioned safety protocols, Cinemark wants viewers to know that they have increased ventilation in each auditorium, each equipped with its own HVAC system. A constant flow of outside air is also frequently cycled in each auditorium. With vaccine distribution on the rise, we could see a lot of people in the Los Angeles area return to theaters in the next few days. The envelope was one of the first outlets to report on the reopening of the Cinemark theaters in Los Angeles this weekend.
