Cyriel Dessers completes transfer from Rangers, reveals Balogun’s influence on election – News Block

Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers has completed a transfer to Scottish club Glasgow Rangers from Cremonese, writing a four-year club.

In his first interview after completing the transfer from Italian Serie B club Cremonese, Dessers revealed the influence of Leon Balogun on his choice.

The 28-year-old’s international team-mates Leon Balogun, Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey all stood out in Rangers colours, so Cyriel Dessers sought advice before deciding to join the Scottish club.

Watch Cyriel Dessers’ first interview with Glasgow Rangers:

How do you feel sitting here as a Rangers player?

Really happy. It’s such a relief to finally be here. It’s been a long few days. Stressful days, but I have the best feeling to finally be here. The first interest came a long time ago, I think four years ago. So it’s always been kind of in my head and finally being here now, that’s really cool. The first conversations were around May. So it’s very nice to be here now.

And did you talk to anyone for advice before you moved here?

I spoke through my emails with Nigerian national team Leon Balogun about the club. He was very positive about it, about the club, the manager, the people around the staff, the city. So yeah, that for me was an affirmation to go through it. The history of the club, the fans, the stadium, everything here is huge. But other than that, of course, I look at what’s here right now and I had some really good talks with Mr. Beale about joining. We discuss his plans, the idea he wants. On the pitch, off the pitch. I thought it would be a great fit for me and the team, so I’m happy to be here.

The training around is really beautiful. And invites to work hard there and be professional. That’s what I was looking for too. And if you come here and you get to the stadium… yeah, I don’t think that needs an explanation.

What qualities can you bring to the squad?

I think I’m a pretty modern striker. I am quite complete. I can play the combination. I can make deep runs but I think my main threat is scoring goals so hopefully I can bring that to the team and help us win some games and hopefully win some trophies as well.

And you also have a lot of experience playing in some of the best leagues in Europe.

I am at the top of my career. I have the experience now but I am still very fit physically and I feel very good. So I hope to put that together and then become important here. But yeah, of course, I got some experience in the last few years, also in Europe, last year in Italy, so I hope to bring that to the team and help the guys and help the team win games.

Should the European competition also be exciting?

Yes of course. It would be a dream to play the Champions League with Rangers. An excellent day. Of course I watched the last games Rangers played in Europe and if you see it here at Ibrox with the stadium lights on at night it’s very special and I can’t wait to see it in person.

Does it feel like an exciting time to join the club?

Yeah, there’s something moving at the Rangers right now and I’m happy to be a part of it. So let’s hope this is the start of a beautiful season. Already in the last month I received tons of messages from fans, so I want to thank you first of all for the support and love I received even before signing. I hope I can give something back with performances on the pitch and together with him. Equipment. If I meet them in the city, I’ll be happy to help them, and they can always ask me anything.

I’m sure you can’t wait to meet your teammates and play again.

Yes of course. Me especially after the last few days when that’s when he’s busy making the deal. I really want to be in the dressing room, be on the field and enjoy football.
