Danny Minogue thought Princess Diana was dressed as an 80-year-old when they first met.
The ‘This Is It’ singer performed for the late princess who died at the age of 36 in a car accident in 1997 at the Children’s Royal Variety at The London Palladium in 1990 and remembered how “nervous” and awkward the royal family looked to be. …
She recalled News.com.au: “She was very young. She was very nervous. These were her first royal engagements, in which she was alone.
“I remember looking at her and thinking, ‘You look like you dressed as an 80-year-old woman.’ It was truly as if the queen’s mother had stylized it.
“She was just a little Princess Diana with her chin down, looking up at you. And I felt sorry for her, because you felt the nerves. “
Danny admitted that “nothing prepared her” for this surreal event.
She said, “You are suddenly backstage at Palladium looking forward to meeting a very young Princess Diana with The Rolling Stones. Nothing. “
The former X Factor judge may have criticized Diana’s style at the time, but she admitted that the princess “found her fashionable mojo” years later.
Elsewhere in the interview, Danny admitted that it was difficult to step out of her sister Kylie Minogue’s shadow when she was just starting her pop career in the UK.
She said, “It was crazy. My sister was already there and she was in Neighbors, she has already released a lot of music. It was absolute hysteria.
“I came from Australia, where I grew up on television, and everyone knew me from The Time of Young Talent, and then I went to London and was the girl from Home and Away, Kylie’s sister.
“And I had a good five years of that: every acquaintance was:“ You are Kylie’s sister ”.
“The hardest question was that people always said, ‘So you are doing music now, because your sister is doing it? “And I said:” No, I have been singing professionally since I was 10, but excellent. Chill. ‘”
