Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has encouraged 40 friends to join her mentoring program.
To celebrate her 40th birthday on Wednesday (4/21/21), actress Melissa McCarthy joined the Duchess in a new video launching the 40×40 initiative to “Help Women Return to the Labor Market.”
On the Archewell website, she said, “As I reflect on my 40th birthday and the many things I am grateful for, I am amazed that time is one of our most important gifts.
“Time with our loved ones, time doing what we love, time spent learning, laughing, growing, and the sacred time we have on this earth.
“Among the most precious gifts of time is also the time spent serving others, knowing that it can bring incredible change.
“Toward this last point, and given my 40th circle around the sun, I wondered what would happen if we all spent 40 minutes helping someone else or mentoring someone in need?
“What happens then if we ask our friends to do the same?”
During the Melissa video, the Bridesmaids actress joked about the yacht party, the Suits reunion and even the matching tattoos before Meghan revealed her idea, and singer Adele and fashion designer Stella McCartney asked for their time. …
In the video, she said, “More than two million women in the US and tens of millions worldwide have lost their jobs due to Covid.
“I think if we all do this and see that everyone is doing some kind of act of service, we might have some ripple effect.”
She asked 40 events, artists, athletes and world leaders to participate, and Stella and Adele were joined by poet Amanda Gorman and the wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Sophie Gregoire Trudeau.
