The company has launched an investigation following allegations that a company employee sold rare FIFA Ultimate Team cards.
Electronic Arts Sports has confirmed that they are investigating the current scandal regarding FIFA where an employee was accused online of selling FIFA Ultimate Team Player cards with real money. After fans of the sports game clamored online accusing the employee of misleading them, EA was forced to investigate the matter and an official investigation is now underway.
The team player cards
FIFA Ultimate Team Player Cards is a major income generator for EA. Ultimate Team Player mode has been there in the FIFA franchise for a few years now, and most players buy the latest version of the game just to keep playing in this mode. The mode allows players to spend in-game money and real-world money to purchase trading cards based on real-life professional players, which can then be used to create makeshift teams and compete against other players.
EA announced that they are actively investigating the scandal over the weekend. Following the accusations that occurred on social media, EA and FIFA ‘s the developers have suspended all discretionary content grants indefinitely.
How does the system work
The system that EA has is one that allows FIFAdevelopers to award in-game rewards to specific players for Ultimate Team player. Typically this feature is used to give cards to players as an apology for technical issues or accidental removal of items, a system that is implemented in most multiplayer games. EA also uses this feature to offer free content to famous game influencers. The alleged employee / culprit is believed to have used this method to transfer rare FUT cards to the buyer’s account.
