In collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Edo State government has provided training to 500 youth in the state, equipping them with skills for the future workforce. The initiative, dubbed ‘Digi Link’, was run at the University of Benin and organized in partnership with ACOE Associates and Public Digital, with the aim of enhancing the digital capabilities of the state government.
During the one-day workshop, Edo State Social Investment Program Focal Person Ms. Osayueamem Aladeselu expressed that the program intends to prepare youth for the future job market by fostering entrepreneurial skills and instilling enthusiasm. about their careers. She emphasized the goal of creating digitally empowered citizens in the state, expanding learning opportunities, bridging the gap between academia and industry, and establishing a talent pool for the public sector and digital ecosystem, in line with the vision of the Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.
Aladeselu further explained: “Our goal is to ensure that young people are actively involved in the digital transformation process, gaining the necessary skills to thrive in the workplace of the future. Today’s training, aimed at more than 500 young people from the University Community, has significantly contributed to improving their employability, academic performance, earning potential, productivity and responsible digital citizenship.”
He also noted that the event provided a platform to discuss how innovation and technology can address societal challenges and how participants can use state government digital initiatives, such as the Edo Innovation Hub, to improve their skills and contribute to the development of the state and country.
Mr. Ekenem Isichei, Digi Link’s program manager, stated that the learning series for college students would be held at all universities in Edo State. The goal is to prepare students for a digital future and cultivate a talented pool of people to support Edo State’s digital landscape.
The program also included a panel session titled “Digital Transformation: Unlocking Opportunities for Professional Growth.” Panelists included Chioma Obiokolo, Head of Technology, Products and Consulting at Viisaus; Ifedayo Durosinmi-Etti, CEO/Founder of Herconomy; Mr. Donatus Igiekhume, Head of Unit, Citizen Service and Content Management at EDSG; and Precious Ekome, Teaching Leader at Innovation Hub.
