Frictional Games returned to form with Amnesia: Rebirth last year, and five months later, they are reflecting on the game and more. In a new post about his website, friction is not only reflected in decisions made with Renaissance, but they have also announced that their previous title, 2015’s SOMA, has cracked the million units sold.
“We passed the milestone some time ago, but we had not been able to announce it until now,” the publication says. “Reaching the million mark once again shows that our games have a really long tail and the way we like to interpret that is like a seal of quality and that our games get a strong push over time through word of mouth. ”.
As for Amnesia: RebirthIn sales, Frictional says the game has sold “more than 100,000 copies” across all platforms and PCs. Very similar SOMA, the team trusts that RenaissanceSales will be recovered with future sales, combined with “A bigger update” on which they are currently working and which will be announced “shortly”.
The post also delves into the team’s reactions to reviews and conversations about the game, which also ventures into spoiler territory. So if you haven’t played Renaissance, you may want to be careful when reading.
Lastly, Frictional mentions in passing that they are already working on their next project. “Looking to the future, we are really excited. The project to develop Renaissance has really laid the organizing foundation for how we as a studio can work to move forward and we’ve just started production on the next game (which has now had tons of pre-production time for Renaissance) and we’re starting pre-production on a second project as we speak. “
