Sales of SUVs have increased significantly in recent years. People prefer SUVs over other body styles due to their versatility. SUVs offer a high driving position that makes the vehicle easier to drive and have high ground clearance, meaning the driver should worry less about rough roads or speed switches. Next year we will see the launch of many new SUVs. Here are 10.
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Breeze
Maruti is working on a new generation of Vitara Brezza. It will still retain the SUV’s boxy design traits, but there would be significant changes in the design. The interior will also be completely new. So, expect a new dashboard design, a new, larger infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a new instrument cluster. Mechanically, the engine specifications will remain the same. Hence, it will continue to come with a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine. However, Maruti Suzuki could finally upgrade the gearbox to a 6-speed unit.
Tata Punch Turbo
Tata’s Punch is already a hit in the Indian market. It looks like a mini version of the Harrier. Because of that, it has a lot of road presence. It is currently the safe vehicle that you can buy in the Indian market. Tata delivers the punch with just a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine. According to some media reports, Tata will throw the punch with a turbocharged gasoline engine next year. The turbo petrol engine will be derived from the Altroz iTurbo. The engine will be more powerful than the current engine and will also produce more torque. The Punch Turbo is expected to be offered only with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny
Suzuki has started testing the 5-door version of the Jimny. It will essentially be an elongated version of the regular 3-door Jimny. We don’t know if Maruti Suzuki will make any design changes to the 5-door Jimny so that it’s easier to differentiate. It should come with the same 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 4 × 4 system.
Citroen officially presented the C3 for the international market. The new compact SUV will also be launched in the Indian market next year. Design is the defining feature of the C3. It is expected to come with a 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that would be capable of running on flexible fuels. It will be offered with manual transmission and automatic transmission.
Jeep Meridian will essentially be a 7-seater version of the Compass. It will get a slightly different front end and the main differences will start after the B-pillar. The Meridian is still conducting high-altitude testing and is expected to launch in India by mid-2022. The Meridian could get a more powerful tune than the 2.0-liter diesel engine offered on the Compass.
Skoda discontinued the Kodiaq when BS6 emissions regulations were implemented. Finally, they are bringing the Kodiaq back with a makeover next year. The SUV will arrive as CKD and launch in January next year. The exterior of the Kodiaq now looks more elegant and there are some subtle changes to the interior as well. Kodiaq will no longer use the 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine. Instead, it will come with a 2.0-liter TSI petrol engine.
Maruti Suzuki S-Cross
Suzuki wants to unveil the new generation of S-Cross on November 25th. It should arrive in India next year. The 2022 S-Cross will be based on a new platform and undergo a major design overhaul. Strong hybrid technology is also expected. Hence, the current 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine could also receive some updates.
Hyundai Creta Facelift
Hyundai has unveiled the restyling of the Creta in Indonesia. It now gets a new parametric grille that makes it fit into Hyundai’s new design language. The headlights are also completely new and the rear lights have been slightly modified. There are also changes in the interior. It now comes with a larger 10.25-inch instrument cluster, it’s the same unit we saw on the Alcazar. 2022 Crete now also gets ADAS. We expect the Crete restyling to be launched next year.
The fourth generation of Tucson was spotted being tested in our country. Gets a parametric grid. The design is a big departure from what we’ve seen so far. The fourth generation Tucson is already on sale on the international market. At the moment, we don’t know which engine Hyundai will offer in India.
Mahindra has been working on the next generation of Scorpio for quite some time now. It will keep its boxy style but the size of the SUV will grow. There will be new headlights and taillights and the interior will also be completely new. It will be offered with the same petrol and diesel engine we saw on the Mahindra Thar and XUV700. Scorpio 2022 is expected to launch in the first quarter of next year.
