MANILA, Philippines – Gilas Pilipinas is back in the Philippines following his campaign at the Fiba Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Belgrade, Serbia.
Gilas’ assistant coach Jong Uichico posted a photo on his Facebook account of the team’s arrival at Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Saturday.
While Gilas has yet to prepare for the 2021 Fiba Asia Cup, the team first has to spend some time in quarantine under government protocols due to COVID-19.
Gilas withdrew from Olympic contention after suffering two losses in the group stage playoffs.
Hosts Serbia managed an 83-76 victory over Gilas on Thursday before the Dominican Republic gave the young Filipino team a 94-67 thrashing on Friday.
The national team is expected to return to Calamba to prepare for the Asian Cup in Jakarta, Indonesia, to be held from August 21-28.
