New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian has started dating a prominent lawyer who represented her during an anti-corruption investigation into her former lover, the disgraced former MP Daryl Maguire.
The Prime Minister’s sister Mary posted a photo on Instagram Friday night of Berejiklian and Arthur Moses SC with the caption: “After work, on Friday you sit down with these two … Glad and her boo.”
A spokeswoman for the prime minister later said: “They have recently started spending time together in private. The prime minister will not talk about his private life. “
Moses Berejiklian in 2020 when he presided over an Icac hearing that examined Maguire’s depicted conduct. The premier revealed in the investigation that she had been in a “close personal relationship” with Maguire.
Moses is no longer the prime minister’s attorney, his office said Friday.
Berejikian’s private life was highlighted during Icac hearings, in which Maguire was being investigated for allegedly corrupt real estate deals.
Berejiklian was not charged with any crime, but admitted that the secret relationship with Maguire continued even after she was forced to fire him in 2018 following the Icac revelations.
Facing calls from the New South Wales Labor opposition to resign, Berejiklian acknowledged that he had “held back” in his private life, but denied any knowledge of Maguire’s activities.
He told a press conference that it was not easy for him to talk about his private life and described the situation as a “personal nightmare”.
“I’m human and I get stuck in my personal life,” she said at the time. “For someone who is extremely reserved and extremely cautious and very conservative in the way he leads his life, it has been very difficult to have that in sight.”
He later told the Daily Telegraph she had “loved” Maguire but would never speak to him again.
“I can formally tell people that I have given up on love,” he said. “I’m just going to say that I’ve always put my work first, rightly or wrongly, and that now will continue indefinitely.”
