Greece’s Olympic Games water polo team said Sunday it would donate half of the prize money they will receive from Olympiakos soccer team owner Vangelis Marinakis to victims of wildfires across the country.
“We want to thank Mr. Marinakis from the bottom of our hearts for his generous move. We consider it our duty to help by donating half of the amount to the victims of the forest fires, ”announced team captain Giannis Foundoulis in a statement issued by the Greek Olympic Committee.
Greece lost the water polo final of the Tokyo Olympics to Serbia.
Marinakis said he would award the team € 200,000, according to an Olympiakos announcement.
