On Monday, during Xbox’s 20th anniversary celebration, Microsoft gave fans a stellar surprise. As of now, anyone with Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S or PC can download the Infinite Halo free multiplayer beta. Rumors of an early launch had been spreading all weekend and now we know those rumors were about money. Alone 343 Industries developer still has plans to launch Halo Infinite on December 8, but today you can play competitively online.

Infinite Halo live multiplayer beta on Xbox and PC

As 343 Industries explains in a blog post, the multiplayer technical previews were effective in testing the infrastructure behind the game. That’s why the team felt good about launching the beta almost a month ahead of schedule. With that in mind, we should still expect some “hits and bugs” along the way. After all, this is still just a beta and not the final public release.

However, today marks the start of Infinite Halo Season 1. Just like other popular multiplayer games, like Fortnite Other Destiny, Infinite Halo will have seasons with different maps, unique modes and a battle pass. Anything you earn during Season 1 will remain on your account.

What’s going on in Infinite Halo Season 1?

343 says Infinite Halo Season 1 will run from now until May 2022. Initially, the developer planned to launch a new season every three months. 343i instead extended Season 1 “to ensure Season 2 meets our high quality standards and so we can complete Season 2 development in a healthy and sustainable way for our team.” This also means that Season 1 will have extra content.

Remember: unlike the previous one Alone titles, campaign and multiplayer are two separate products. Infinite Halo multiplayer will be free, just like Fortnite Other Call of Duty: Warzone. Even if you are not interested in the campaign, you can download the multiplayer for free.

Without a doubt, the arrival of Infinite Halo multiplayer was the highlight of the Xbox anniversary celebration. But that wasn’t the only major announcement of the event.
