Netflix’s teen series “Heartstopper” garnered love from far and wide when it premiered in April 2022, and we officially have our first look at season two. On July 1, Netflix released the first official teaser for the highly-anticipated second season of the show. The best part? Nick, Charlie and their friends appear to be heading to Paris in the new footage.
The streamer previously released first look photos on May 24, a month after the cast celebrated the show’s one-year anniversary by previewing the new season and announcing its summer premiere date in a video. And on June 17 at the TUDUM fan event, Netflix released the first scene of episode one and all the episode titles.
On December 2, 2022, Netflix revealed that the second season of the show had officially wrapped filming. The media company posted a photo on Instagram of actors Kit Connor and Joe Locke with writer Alice Oseman, along with the caption: “And that’s a recap of ‘Heartstopper’ season 2… à bientôt.”
The French phrase, which translates to “see you soon,” makes a lot of sense considering the cast has been seen filming in Paris. Additionally, “Heartstopper” is based on a series of young adult graphic novels by Oseman, and in the books the cast heads to the City of Love. Oseman also took to Instagram at the time to tell his followers, “That it’s a recap of ‘Heartstopper’ Season 2! It’s been an incredibly busy few months on set with many new challenges for the cast and crew, but everyone overcame those challenges with such passion, skill and determination. Many thanks to everyone from the cast and crew – you’ve all worked ridiculously hard and given your all, and for that I’ll be forever grateful. This season is going to be so magical and I can’t wait to start post-production!”
In June 2022, Netflix announced that the show had been renewed for not only the second season, but also the third. The first season adapted the first two volumes of “Heartstopper,” and the second season focuses on volume three. Oseman is planning a fifth and final volume in the series (due for release this December), but it’s not yet clear if the last two books will be covered in a third season of the show, or if the streamer will give the series a fourth season. to end his many threads.
Before Netflix announced the renewal of “Heartstopper,” the show’s creative team hinted at where the series would go next. “I definitely want to incorporate the themes of mental health, because that’s a really big thing in the books,” Oseman told Digital Spy in April 2022. “The challenge of writing ‘Heartstopper’ is exploring those darker themes while keeping the such an upbeat and hopeful tone. That’s been, like, the struggle of writing it for me all along. But I like to think it’s possible (laughs). I feel like I’ve made it in the books.”
Oseman also revealed that in future seasons, the scope of the story will likely expand to involve some of the teachers, not just the teenage students who have been the focus of the show thus far. “We will move on to volume three of the books. And that’s when the teacher romance happens,” Oseman said in the April interview. “So in the show, we already have Mr. Ajayi, but in the books there’s also Mr. Farouk, who appears in volume three. And they have this kind of interesting friendship deep down that eventually develops into something more. “
Ahead, here’s everything we know so far about the second season of “Heartstopper.”
