When people were preparing to hang their Singapore flags outside their hallways and doors a few weeks ago, many were probably surprised by the sudden changes in the Singapore government’s Covid-19 measures.
The country returned to phase 2 of the intensified alert (HA) from July 22 to August 18. The announcement came just half a month before Singapore’s National Day on August 9. This was done to contain the growing Covid-19 clusters linked to the Jurong fishing port.
This meant that the heart fireworks and Red Lions displays were also canceled for August 7-8.
Dining at home was prohibited, while social gathering groups were reduced from five to two people. Even this year The National Day parade has been postponed to August 21.
But that does not mean that our lion’s roar will cease. Activities can still be done safely at home, and we can still support the country in more ways than one this long weekend.
Vulcan Post has curated a list of activities you can take to celebrate the nation’s independence, while staying safe and minimizing your outdoor exposure.
Singaporeans connect with food and our families connect better with food, too.

Resilience in the face of the Singapore pandemic
About 3.2 million people in Singapore are fully vaccinated as of July 28, and that represents 57 percent of the population.
By National Day, Singapore aims to fully vaccinate 67 percent of its population. Singapore is currently on track to meet that target, as well as its September target of 80 percent.
By September, Singapore would have one of the highest vaccination rates in the world, and that places the country in a “solid position to move towards a society resilient to Covid-19.”
This suggests a greater openness of the country and Singapore is likely to hope to have a more normal life ahead. We expect perhaps even the resumption of the travel bubble talks with Taiwan and Hong Kong.
To achieve these dreams, we will have to work together and stay safe. Stay strong Singapore and we will get through these tough times.
