Itanagar: Unsurprisingly, it was a perfect 10 for Indian paddlers in individual events. Taking full control of the proceedings in South Asian junior table tennis, the hosts won all available gold medals on the final day at the Dorjee Khandu Indoor Stadium today.
In addition, the Indians also took four silver medals in singles. Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and the Maldives were also among the medalists, while Bhutan, who participated only in the individual events, came up blank.
On the second day of the championships, the Indians won three gold medals in the U-15 Men, U-19 Women and U-15 Women, while Nepal claimed the U-19 Men gold.
In the Under-19 Boys singles category, Ankur Bhattacharjee defeated Payas Jain 4-2 to claim the gold. Payas had to deal with the money.
The match had all the emotion of a final, according to the occasion. Both guys played aggressively and went for long plays. But Ankur proved to be a better player that day, as Payas had to catch up with his opponent after Ankur won 3-1. The Delhi paddler managed to take the fifth game, but in the sixth, Ankur closed him out with minimal points to close out the final, especially after Payas’ backhands failed to land at crucial moments.
In the U-19 girls’ singles gold race, Suhana Saini defeated Yashaswini Ghorpade 4–1 in what turned out to be a one-sided final. Yashaswini was in a bad mood and was never able to pick Suhana’s deceptive serve as she first scored more often, offering negative points to Suhana.

In the under-19 women’s doubles, Yashaswini and Suhana combined to beat the Maldivian pair of Mishka Ibrahim and Fathimath Dheema Ali 3-0 to take gold. Similarly, the Indian duo of Divyansh Srivastava and Jash Modi whitewashed Ridoy Mohutassin Ahmed and Bawn Rahim Lian to win the men’s doubles 3-0.
In the under 15 men’s singles, Priyanuj Bhattacharya defeated PB Abhinand 3-1, while in the under 15 women’s singles, Jennifer Varghese was quite successful by beating Avisha Karmakar 3-1 in the final. As for the girls, in the section, Jennifer Varghese and Avisha Karmakar defeated the Nepalese Sushmita Khadka and Subhashree Shrestha to climb to the top of the podium.
In the mixed doubles, Payas Jain and Yashaswini took gold, beating their Maldivian rivals Akhyar Ahmed Khalid and Fathimath Dheema Ali, and the pairing of PB Abhinand and Jennifer Varghese outwitted Sri Lanka’s Mohamed Akram Shafiullah and Kavindya Tamadi by gold.
