India’s plans to blend 20% ethanol with gasoline from April 2023 will help reduce sugar exports subsidies, Secretary of Petroleum Tarun Kapoor he told reporters Thursday.

India approved on Wednesday a proposal to achieve 20 percent blending of ethanol with gasoline by 2025, five years ahead of its previous target.

Increased ethanol production will reduce India’s sugar production, reducing the need for export incentives for the sweetener.
