ISL 2021-22: SC East Bengal signs A-League defender Tomislav Mrcela

SC East Bengal involved former Perth Glory defender and Australian central defender Tomislav Mrcela for the next edition of the Indian Super League 2021-22 (ISL 2021-22), was confirmed on Tuesday.

Tomislav is the second manager of SC East Bengal Manuel ‘Manolo’ Diaz foreign signature after Amir Dervišević. SC East Bengal have named former Real Madrid Castilla manager Manuel ‘Manolo’ Diaz as the new head coach for the ISL 2021-22 season.

6 feet 4 inches tall, Tomislav joined the Perth Glory in 2018 on a two-year contract. During his tenure in the A-League club, he won the A-League Premiership and contributed massively to the team’s success.

“I am happy to have signed for SC East Bengal and have received good feedback on the club. Tomislav Mrcela Career

Tomislav, born in Perth, grew up in Croatia, joining the youth academy of the Dalmatian team of RNK Split in 2001. He left the city of Split after spending eight years at RNK Split to join Jadran Kaštel, at the time the third division team in Croatia. He later signed for NK Primorac 1929 in 2010 and rose to prominence at NK Imotski, where he was part of the starting eleven in no time despite being only 20 years old. A streak of consistent performances over two seasons for NK Imotski and NK Mosor earned him a contract with top division squad NK Hrvatski Dragovoljac in 2013, from where he moved to Zagreb squad NK Lokomotiva, riding his stellar performance at heart defense.

Tomislav scored his first goal for Lokomotiva on his debut in the 5-2 defeat to HNK Hajduk Split. He also spent some time in South Korea, practicing his craft for the Jeonnam Dragons, before returning home to sign for the Perth Glory in 2018. Tomislav was named to a 23-man team for Australia. before two 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Kyrgyzstan.
