MANILA, Philippines – Jayson Valdez finished 44th with a score of 612.6 and failed to advance to the men’s 10-meter air rifle medal round in the Tokyo Olympics shooting competition Sunday at the shooting range of Asaka.
The Philippine bet needed to be in the top eight of the competition, but it never got out of 40 in the 47-man competition, reaching 43rd place during the qualifying round.
China’s Yang Haoran led the pack with an Olympic qualifying record of 632.7, surpassing the previous mark of 630.2 that Italian Niccolo Campriani set in 2016.
Americans Lucas Kozeniesky and William Shaner came in second and third, respectively, with scores of 631.5 and 630.8.
Slovak Patrik Jany finished fourth with a mark of 630.5 with Turkish Omer Akgun, who was one of the fastest, in fifth place with 629.8.
Russian Vladimir Maslennikov (629.8), Hungarian Istvan Peni (629.4) and Chinese Sheng Lihao (629.2) rounded out the finalists.
