After months of chatter and speculation, John Lloyd Cruz’s alleged collaboration with GMA 7 finally materialized on November 9 after the actor signed a contract with the network for his planned sitcom.
The blocktime show – to be directed and produced online by Edgar Mortiz of Wacky Solutions – now has a home. And Cruz couldn’t be happier, he said, because, for a while, they “struggled” to find a platform.
“Thank you for giving our little family a home. Finding a home in GMA 7 is an important thing, “he said in a statement.
The event was held at the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel and was attended by a line of network executives led by GMA Films president Annette Gozon-Valdes. Also present were Mortiz, Cruz’s managers at Crown Artist Management and GMA Artist Center consultant Johnny Manahan.
The 38-year-old star is “excited” and “happy” to work with the Kapuso network and has described their upcoming collaboration as “twenty years of work”. In the early 2000s, Cruz, although an ABS-CBN artist and discovery, was still able to make appearances on GMA 7 shows, such as the horror anthology “Kakabakaba”.
“Thanks for waiting [for me]. As Ms. Annette said, it’s been 20 years. We are happy to have waited because I think this is the right time for me to be here “, said” 24 Oras “.
“I am delighted that John Lloyd will be working with us and not only as the lead actor on his show, but also as part of the creative team,” said Gozon-Valdes. “We are thrilled to see more of what it can bring to the off-cam table. These are truly exciting times for us. “
GMA 7 President and CEO Felipe Gozon described Cruz as “one of the most sought after actors of his generation.
“That is why I am very happy that he has chosen to partner with GMA for his return to TV,” he said.
Cruz, who was last seen on the ABS-CBN sitcom “Home Sweetie Home” in 2017, made her first live television appearance in four years last June at an event for a popular online shopping platform, gone broadcast on GMA 7.
And while she decided to take a break from the show, Cruz hasn’t completely stopped working for the past four years. He did some commercials; kept in touch with award-winning director Lav Diaz; and made a cameo voice in “Culion” at the 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival.
Among the stars who welcomed Cruz to GMA 7 was his perennial on-screen partner Bea Alonzo, who joined the network’s roster of exclusive talent last July.
In a video message, the actress joked that what people say about her and Cruz must be true: “Magkadugtog ang bituka nating dalawa!”
“Here we are together again in the same place … I can’t wait for everyone to see and experience the greatness of a John Lloyd Cruz just like I have over the years,” said Alonzo, who once joked that that Cruz was probably trying to follow her.
Cruz has also expressed interest in working with other GMA 7 stars, including Dingdong Dantes, Marian Rivera and Alden Richards.
“I have already worked with some of them and I hope to be able to work with them again. I can’t wait to do that, “he said.” If they have time, I hope they can visit us on our schedule and we will welcome them into our little family. “
“I hear that Bea and Alden have plans in place. Taste ko makigulo doon,” he joked. “I hope our plans are aligned.”
