Sanjukta has long been dedicated to reviving and redesigning the Mekhela Chador, a traditional dress worn by Assamese women, to maintain its demand among contemporary consumers. This outfit consists of two main pieces of fabric wrapped around the body. The Mekhela is the lower part that is covered from the waist down. It is folded in one or two folds around the waist and tucks inside. The Chador is a long piece of cloth, the end of which is tucked into the waist over the Mekhela while the rest is covered like a pallu. This is usually paired with a fitted top.
Lara’s Mekhela Chador was paired with a long-sleeved white silk blouse. She completed the look with big jhumkas and open hair.
