A committee made up mostly of left-wing figures recommended Monday to the White House to counter the spread of disinformation and “dangerous online conspiracy theories.”
The Aspen Institute Commission on Information Disorder has published a series of advice Monday, which included calling on the Biden administration to have an “apolitical team” to develop a national strategy to tackle the problem.
The group said that although the federal government has recognized the effects of false and misleading information “on public health, elections, business, technology, and continuing campaigning on communities of color,” it has failed to strategize or put leadership on the issue. .
In June, the White House She said the federal government “would work to find ways to counter the polarization often fueled by disinformation, disinformation and dangerous online conspiracy theories” in its effort to combat domestic terrorism.
“This lack of leadership, ownership or strategy is hampering efforts, slowing response times and duplicating efforts,” the report said. “Therefore, the Commission urges the White House to establish a dedicated team to define the problem of disinformation and to clearly articulate the desired goals, leadership, responsibilities, authorities and capabilities.”
The commission asked the White House to develop “clear political statements on intent and goals, defining roles and responsibilities across the executive branch …” and identify “gaps in authority and capabilities.”
“This is not intended as an invitation to establish new powers or authorities,” the commission noted. “Instead, it aims to provide a clear, focused and strategic approach to government responsibilities in addressing the information clutter.”
The White House did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
The commission was criticized for being highly biased, and a previous review by The Daily Caller News Foundation found that many of its commissioners are part of left-wing causes.
Katie Couric, prince Harry, and Kathryn Murdoch are some of the well-known names on the commission. Murdoch, for example, has a history of support leftist causes like PACRONYM, a super PAC affiliated with ACRONYM, which has ties to the Democratic Party.
Murdoch’s spokesperson did not respond to requests for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
Some of the lesser-known names are also associated with left-wing causes. Rashad Robinson, another commissioner, leads Color of Change, a social justice organization founded by former President Barack Obama’s “green jobs czar,” Van Jones, and former MoveOn.org director of grassroots mobilization , James Rucker. The color of change is financed by Goerge Soros’ Open Society Foundations in the amount of millions of dollars.
A spokesperson for Robinson earlier declined to comment.
Other members of the commission include openly Republican members Chris Krebs, a former national security official, and former Congressman Will Hurd, R-Texas.
