The great suspenseful scene at the end of the first season of Loki was added after season 2 was approved.
Marvel Studios’ newest original series Loki became one of the biggest Disney Plus hits in the course of six weeks. With the recent ending, fans were caught off guard by the suspense ending and were greeted with a mid-credits joke, revealing that Loki (Tom Hiddleston) will be returning in season 2.
Certain things regarding the ending were always going to be in place. In particular, the introduction of the Multiverse was always on the cards. While speaking to TheWrap, Kate Herron revealed that this was always the final destination for this season’s narrative, but the excitement regarding the characters and their potential future led to an open conclusion:
“As the Multiverse launched, we always knew that’s where the ‘Loki’ story would end. It just came from the fact that everyone was really excited about the work that we had all done. And it was clearly felt that there was a lot more way to go with the characters. “
Kate Herron also revealed that a suspense ending developed in season 2 when the story was approved to continue beyond these first six episodes:
“In terms of the ending, where is he on TVA, and he runs, and it’s like, is he on the TVA that we know? We definitely work on [that] once we knew the story continued. But I think we always intended to ask the characters questions. “
The director also revealed that Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) assumed she sent Loki to the TVA that existed previously before the Multiverse was released. Unfortunately for the duo, he was sent to a different branch of TVA in which Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) is in charge. It’s safe to say that after this suspense, Season 2 is shaping up to be something exciting!
