LSU’s Brian Kelly pays late fine a week after exchange with reporter

LSU head coach Brian Kelly he’s keeping his bite.

Following LSU opening game loss to the state of Florida in week 1, Kelly joked with the media that they were late, saying they would be fined for not being on time.

“With that, we’ll open it up to this late-arriving media crowd that must have enjoyed the weekend,” Kelly said last week. “Usually it’s $10 that we put into the kitty. We’re having a big New Year’s Eve party at my house.”

A reporter responded to the jab, shooting after Kelly’s first loss as the Tigers’ head coach.

“Maybe if you win, I’ll be there on time,” the reporter told Kelly.

On Monday, Kelly was late for her media duties and flashed a $10 bill in the room.

“There’s my $10,” Kelly said Monday. “Then let’s eliminate that immediately. I pay my debts.”

Kelly was certainly in a better mood Monday after his first victory as the Tigers’ head coach.

LSU defeated Southern 65-17 in Kelly’s first game in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, after the disappointing start to his time as Tigers head coach.

“I think the biggest thing is that our guys wanted to get back on the field and play the game the right way,” Kelly said after the Week 2 win, per 247 Sports. “That is, start fast, play with a lot of attention to detail, play with a lot of effort and enthusiasm.”
