Last week, former French footballer Thierry Henry launched a new app to tackle online hatred, among other issues, at the Lisbon Web Summit. Called Game of Our Lives (GOL), the social networking platform was developed by Marino Software, based in Dublin.

Sanctioned by the foundation of the same name, the new social network aims to provide a gamified platform where social activists and public figures can defend causes of their choice with the help of their fans, with the goal of having 1 billion people dedicating the ‘1pc of their time at 2030 causes.

GOL was inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and will feature celebrities who advocate for causes ranging from human rights and gender equality to mental health. Henry, now coach, is one of many elite athletes who should join the cause and partner with GOL.

Henry attracted international attention in March when he decided to ditch social media until the platforms and companies behind them took racism seriously. His impact team, titled Highlight the hatred, will focus on removing online hate speech from social media platforms.

The creators behind the development of the app, Marino, are a Dublin-based company based on Dublin City University’s Alpha campus, which houses innovative companies working towards the development of future technologies.

Founded in 2006 as a web application development company, Marino takes its name from the Dublin neighborhood where it was born. After a turbulent time during the financial crisis, Marino opened the sails to new opportunities in mobile app development, which has been his focus ever since.

Marino counts among its clients large players in a wide range of industries, including Permanent TSB, Expressway, RTÉ, Currys and Primark, among others. In 2016, he helped the social media platform Vero create its Android app, which added more than 4 million users within days of launch.

He added that Marino was the only software company behind the creation of GOL’s latest app, marking the second time the company has worked with a social media company after being part of Vero’s development team.

While headquartered in Dublin, Marino said it is a global company with manufacturing and sales centers in Limerick, Spain, the US and the UK, employing around 50 people and actively recruiting to expand its consulting business. strategic and development.
