The winless NASCAR drivers had a glimmer of hope to make the playoffs last week in Atlanta after Kurt Busch became the twelfth winner of the 2021 season, and the first winner since Chase Elliott won the Circuit of Las Americas on May 23.

The 301 Foxwoods Resort Casino at New Hampshire Motor Speedway presents the opportunity for a unique 13th winner to win what should be an automatic playoff spot; But NASCAR hasn’t seen consecutive winners for the first time this season since Brad Keselowski and Kyle Busch won at Talladega and Kansas on April 25 and May 2, respectively.

That said, there are five more races, including Sunday’s, to complete four more winners for the 16-car playoffs. Every winless driver from now on will be under even greater pressure to make the playoffs, eventually diminishing before the start of the postseason.

Denny Hamlin is the most likely among that group to get his first win on Sunday. The regular season points leader – has 10 points more than four-time winner Kyle Larson – calm he has not won a race this season, despite 11 top-five and 14 top-ten finishes. But he has enjoyed success in NHMS, including three wins and six finals.
