Architecture and design studio NBBJ (Seattle) has obtained CarbonNeutral corporate certification from Natural Capital Partners, in accordance with the CarbonNeutral protocol, which is a leading global framework for carbon neutrality.
The company is also committed to reducing emissions by 50% by 2030 and to be completely carbon-neutral by 2050 through a number of strategies, including further reducing energy consumption in its offices; incentives for employees to use public transport; reduced air travel; contracts with zero-emission suppliers; and the purchase of carbon offsets.
As one of the first signatories of the 2030 Challenge for Embodied Carbon, NBBJ currently has 7.5 million square feet of projects in the healthcare, labor, commercial, education sectors, among others, which fulfill the 2030 reduction mandate of 80 % of fossil fuels. The company also has more than 5 million square feet of net zero projects in design and additional millions of square feet of projects that meet sustainability criteria issued by organizations including LEED, Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) and Living. Building Challenge.
