Returning to the arena after injury, India’s Neeraj Chopra won the Lausanne leg of the Diamond League on Friday with a distance of 87.66m. On the other hand, long jumper Murali Sreeshankar failed to impress again at the international meet and finished fifth overall.
This was Neeraj’s third Diamond League win, with his first also coming in Lausanne last year. The Indian javelin specialist, who usually gets his best on the first or second try, was only able to throw his best on the fifth try, this time. In fact, only on the second attempt did he record a clean throw of 83.52m.
But that put him in a troublesome spot, as he languished in third behind Julian Weber (86.20m) and Jakub Vadlejch (84.71m). In the end, Neeraj overtook the leader. Unfortunately, Sreeshankar was unable to make a substantial jump and posted a best of 7.88m.
