Hours of pandemic-induced reality TV binges have prepared me for this moment, and it’s finally here.
Netflix announced on Monday its largest reality TV casting call to date, allowing those 18 and over from the US, Canada, UK or Ireland to give their shot to reality fame by submitting a short video to Nailed It, Love Is Blind, The Circle. , Floor is Lava, Too Hot to Hand, Queer Eye, Dream Home Makeover and more.
As someone who has seen every episode of several of these titles, I am quite tempted to apply. And Netflix has made it extraordinarily easy. After clicking the “submit your video” icon in the upper right corner, you will be taken to a screen where you can choose which Netflix series or show genre you want to submit for. Netflix then asks for personal information and identifiers from your social networks (adding them is optional).
According to the Netflix site, the video should be in portrait mode, 60 seconds or less, and include your name, age, and where you are from. So you’re pretty good at sending that pup over to the baking, dating, or home renovation Netflix title of your choice.
The cast of casting shows also includes The American Barbecue Showdown, Get Organized with the Home Edit, Indian Matchmaking, and Sparking Joy with Marie Kondo. There’s also Roaring Twenties, a new show that will focus on eight twentysomethings from Austin, Texas, who seek “success in life and love” as they navigate “America’s ‘new normal’ of 2020” on Netflix.
As tempted as I am after many hours of streaming to submit a casting video myself, the leap from watching people cling to objects while avoiding imaginary lava to actually sticking together seems difficult. But someone has to be the star of these shows, and if that someone is you, now you can present the case to Netflix.
