Epic Superhero Show Debuts May 7
This is the era of new superhero shows coming out, in addition to Marvel and DC. Independent comic book franchises are getting their live-action versions, like Amazon Prime’s The Boys and Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy. Netflix has now unveiled its next superhero show, titled Jupiter’s legacy. The first teaser for the show revealed that it will be released on May 7, 2021.
And now the show’s creator, Mark Millar, has given a brief glimpse of what the show will look like. Millar called it a mix between The Avengers, The Godfather II other 2001: a space odyssey.
Cast and plot
Jupiter’s legacy stars Josh Duhamel as Sheldon Sampson / The Utopian, Ben Daniels as Walter Sampson, and Leslie Bibb ad Grace Sampson, who are a family of superheroes who belong to a team called The Union.
The other cast members include Tyler Mane as the villain Blackstar, Elena Kamlouris as Chloe Sampson, and Andrew Horton and Brandon Sampson. They are the children of Sheldon and Grace, struggling to live up to the immense legacy of their parents.
The show revealed some first images of the detailed costumes from Millarworld, and it appears that Millar and showrunner Sang Kyu have stayed true to the original material as much as they can. Nothing else about the story has been revealed, but it looks really intriguing and we’re looking forward to seeing the rest of Millar’s first collaboration with the world’s largest streaming service.
In an interview with Empire, Millar said that his characters are a mix of the three films mentioned, and that the story is truly epic in scope, and takes place over 50 years. He also added that Netflix did not curb his ambition and let him go as he wanted.
The show was originally filmed in 2019, but after the first showrunner left, it had a few hurdles to overcome. Hopefully more images will arrive before May.
