What better way to slap someone than by providing grounds for ridicule in the form of a meme?
That’s what Jack Dorsey allegedly did with his tweet “#eth (Ethiopian flag)”.
Twitter and its CEO surely saw the funny side of the tweet, “#eth”, which even got attention from the official Olympics account saying “It’s great to see Jack and the crypto community supporting #ETH athletes!”
Although Jack Dorsey eventually tweeted “eth”, this does not mean that he is offering support for.
In fact, Dorsey’s tweet was not intended to represent Ethereum, but Ethiopia, whose name is shortened to #eth and therefore was accompanied by the African state flag.
Even though Dorsey was simply joking, or perhaps actually expressing his support for Ethiopia, the trolls quickly came up with ways to poke fun at the tweet by turning it into a creative interpretation of Dorsey’s feelings towards Ethereum.
Shortly after, a fake tweet from “Vitalik Buterin” appeared saying “Why is the hashtag #eth now displaying the Ethiopian flag? This is not funny @Jack. “The meme quickly reached the top of the threads.

“There is no room in the heart”
Jack Dorsey has repeatedly stated that his only passion is for Bitcoin. In fact, he is a Bitcoin (BTC) maximalist who has so far refused to buy ETH or any other altcoin on many occasions. He has also repeatedly confirmed his beliefs that Bitcoin will become the native currency of the internet.
On the other side
- Although it would be nice to see Jack Dorsey finally go soft towards Ethereum, it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen anytime soon.
- Jack Dorsey, please leave Bitcoin maximalism to Michael Saylor.
