In the tenth, with Tyler Stephenson starting at second, Senzel homered to left center on a fastball off Hunter Harvey’s first pitch (3-4).

Santillan (1-0) pitched one inning and Alexis Diaz worked an eventful tenth for his 25th save.

TJ Friedl walked for Cincinnati leading off the sixth and Matt McLain was hit by a pitch. With two outs, Elly De La Cruz doubled. Friedl scored, but McLain was waived at home by Abrams’ relief pitch, and the game was tied 2–2.

The game was delayed an hour and 43 minutes by rain in the second inning.
