NNL Super 8: Heartland FC topple Rockets to move closer to Premier League return – News Block

Heartland FC defeated FC ONE Rocket 1-0 in the NNL Super 8 playoffs to shoot down their opponents’ promotion hopes as they neared the return of the Premier League.

A best performance by Heartland FC since a 0-0 opening day draw against the Abeokuta Stormers stifled all attempts by FC ONE Rocket at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, on matchday two of the Nigerian National League Super 8 playoff.

Olasunkanmi Quadri led Heartland FC to victory with a curling effort in the 15th minute before going off injured 12 minutes later.

FC ONE Rocket threatened Heartland FC’s goal on multiple occasions, but were blocked by goalkeeper Chisom Chiagha to give coach Christian Obi’s men a big boost ahead of their Matchday 3 clash against Sporting Lagos FC.

For the Rockets, their hopes of securing one of the four Nigerian Premier League berths in the 2022/2023 Nigerian National League Super 8 playoff ends with this result.

Coach Ndubisi Ndah advised FC ONE Rocket suffered a 1-0 loss against Sporting Lagos FC on matchday one before today’s loss against Heartland FC to finish bottom of the Conference South with no points.

On matchday three, FC ONE Rocket will take on Abeokuta Stormers FC, while Sporting Lagos FC and Heartland FC will meet in the afternoon match.
