The former Governor of Abia State in Nigeria, Okezie Ikpeazu, has been in office since May 29, 2015. Here are some of the notable infrastructure projects and initiatives that took place during his tenure as Governor:
Highway Rehabilitation: Governor Ikpeazu’s administration placed significant focus on the development of road infrastructure. Various road projects were started and completed in different parts of the state, including the reconstruction of major roads such as Aba-Owerri Road, Aba-Port Harcourt Road, and Osisioma Flyover.
Aba Urban Renewal: Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State, underwent a major urban renewal program under the leadership of Governor Ikpeazu. The initiative aimed to transform the city’s infrastructure, including road networks, drainage systems and markets. The goal was to improve the ease of doing business and improve the standard of living for residents.
Health Development: The administration made efforts to improve the healthcare infrastructure in Abia State. This included the renovation and equipment of hospitals, as well as the establishment of new medical facilities, such as the Diagnostic Center and the Specialized Hospital in Umuahia.
Education: The Governor initiated several projects to improve the education sector in Abia State. This involved the construction and renovation of schools, the provision of educational materials, and the implementation of policies to promote the quality of education in the state.
Agriculture: The Ikpeazu administration emphasized agricultural development. Initiatives were implemented to support farmers, encourage agricultural investment and boost food production in the state. The government also facilitated partnerships with private investors to improve the agricultural sector.
There are additional developments and projects done by Ikpeazu before the end of his term and a new governor was elected this year in February.
