While Apple Music’s biggest new features are undoubtedly the introduction of Spatial Audio and Lossless Audio, there was also another feature that quietly made its way to the app recently: the record label pages.
The new record label pages allow labels to offer a number of things about their brand to those who have a relationship with or like to follow artists from a particular company.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Apple Music’s Zane Lowe talked about how a connection to a label can feel if you work with the kind of artists you want to hear.
“Nobody says they are such a fan of Paramount, that they are a fan of the movies they make or not. What they really are a fan of is Marvel because Marvel has focused on what’s really good at,” Lowe says. “The same can be applied to record labels. When I was little, I wasn’t looking for the album that had the Warner logo on it, but I was looking for the Rough Trade logo, XL and, to be fair, the main label system, Atlantic, over a period of time. If you are very focused on delivering great quality, never at the expense of your business results, you will naturally inspire people to seek out what you are creating. “
Lowe says they want to highlight Apple Music labels that “focus too much on creating great quality.” Remember a time when, if you found that label’s logo on the back of a record, cassette tape or CD, you would be inclined to buy an album just because of the label’s reputation.
“We want to highlight the record companies that are very focused on creating great quality. The record companies that we partner with here are the ones where I want to look for their logo on the back of the record and I would buy unheard music because I trust that.” says Lowe. “For me, that is really the culture that we are trying to represent from a label point of view. In a way, this is an opportunity to reestablish the concept of a label as more than just a bank in the system of labels again as more than just a distribution model or an investment model, but actually as a place where music, art and culture are fostered in a really deliberate and very thoughtful way. “
In addition to the Record Label pages, Apple Music has also added support for Spatial Audio and Lossless Audio earlier this week. If you want to experience the new audio experiences in the best possible way, check out our list of the best wired headphones for Apple Music Lossless Audio 2021.
