Ollie Moores “broke” when asked to talk about the late Caroline Flack at a dinner with her friends.
The Island of Love host tragically committed suicide in February 2020, and is remembered for the hitmaker Dance With Me Tonight and some of Caroline’s closest friends attempted to climb 24 peaks in 24 hours.
And in the evening everyone sat down to eat and talk about what Caroline meant to them – but Ollie was taken by surprise by the offer to remember and admitted that he burst into tears.
He recalled, “There were times when we talked about Caroline. There were times when we remembered stories because we all knew her differently, and then we went out to dinner that night. And it completely took me by surprise, one of the girls got up and started talking and said a huge thank you to everyone. And suddenly everything went around the table, and everyone had to say something. And I was so taken by surprise and they asked me to say something and I just couldn’t speak.
“I just couldn’t stand it and cried all the time in front of all these strangers whom I really don’t know. And I was just like “what’s going on.” The grief is so hard and even now it is really hard to even think that we made the ascent for someone who, in my eyes, is still here. “
Ollie admits that the climb was tough both “physically and mentally”, but he can’t believe how well everyone did.
Speaking to Joe Weeks on his podcast, he added, “It was amazing. It was hard, both physically and mentally, to climb and climb the Lake District – to try to overcome 24 peaks in 24 hours. We managed to do 18. We could not do this. I don’t do 24. We didn’t expect that the group will be with different levels of training, and we are all different morally and physically. I thought I was really cool. We broke up walks and I made it to the end. and I thought, “Oh, I did pretty well with that emotionally,” I thought I was going to be pretty emotional. “
